Location, location, location
So my neighbor and partner in crime has me addicted to making iced coffee at home. Not only am I being completely economical I am staying somewhat awake. So I have to find the store where she buys the giant syrups they have at starbucks because it has to be authentic if I am going to give up my drive thru coffee.
Anywho I get ridiculously lost. It is kind of a gift. On my way back to the correct end of town where the aforementioned syrups are sold I run across none other than church's chicken. They have that here? I immediately inform Dan who is like some kind of fried chicken connoisseur. He has the same reaction as me. Isn't that a southern chain? Really. First krispy kreme and now this. We just need bojangles and Dan's life would be complete.
Since neither of us have ever eaten there we gotta go right back and give it a try. Dan must sample any and all local fried chicken should he get a hankering. He has to know where to send me. It was weird looking at a drive thru window menu that offered fried okra. I love fried okra. My kids hate it. They hate anything remotely southern that I have tried to feed them. Lets see there was black eyed peas, the okra, butter beans, tomatoes and rice, pretty much if it isn't a french fry or have frosting they don't want it. It was funny to see a menu with absolutely nothing fresh or healthy on it. I mean at least a sad little salad with mandarins on it or something. I am not sure if church's has realized where they put their store.
So church's chicken was average. It wasn't great. Dan gave it about a 5 or 6. What was funny to me was that while we sat at the drive thru waiting for our average chicken Dan said "this takes you back huh?". I can only assume he meant home. I looked around at the grey clouds and puddles everywhere and promptly replied "no". If I were at home we would have the windows down, the sun would be out and we would be in the chik-fil-a drive thru. Nice try fried chicken impostor. Something about the south just makes it taste better. Sometimes I would like to be home where it is totally acceptable to eat fried food day and night and where the only exercise you get is walking from your house to the car and back. I don't live there anymore though. I have to do what's best and not what is easy, like living here. Even if it rains every freaking day. I gotta be healthy and live to 100 so I can be a burden on my children. Now where are those mandarins......
