The occupy movement.

I usually don't make posts about political things. I honestly try to stay out of that kind of thing. I know its my civic duty to care and and vote, but I have this sad view of our country and our world that keeps me from getting too fired up about any of it.

I have been watching my friends and family comment on and discuss this occupy thing for what seems like forever. There are some convincing arguments too. There are a lot of bad corrupt things going on in our government that people have a right to be upset about. Heck, I am not too happy with it myself. I understand the need for change. I get it that they want to be heard and they want reform. I understand what its like to go without. This is kind of a depressing time in our country, but I don't think the "movement" has quite thought it through. So here is my soap box. I am going to stand on it and give you my take. Everyone else seems to be doing it.

1. Personal responsibility is a rare thing these days. Yes, the banks are bad. Corporations are bad, and student loans are outrageous, but most of us are in debt or losing our houses because we spent more than we had. We just weren't good stewards and that is no one's fault but your own.

2. This is a sinful world and greed and corruption are locked up in the heart of every man. That means you too. I know folks get uncomfortable when you get all religious, but what the occupy movement is really saying is that they can do a better job than the folks currently running things. Maybe they could, but I doubt that if they were the ones holding the millions that they would act any differently. We are all sinful by nature and the only way any real change can happen is when Christ occupies the hearts of those in charge.

3. Destruction never helped anyone's cause. Yes, you are making a lot of noise and damaging property. We all noticed, but did you notice how many people you are inconveniencing? Did you realize you are making day to day life harder for those who actually have jobs and are trying to be good stewards? You are costing the people you say you are speaking out for. It would be more beneficial to spend your time looking for a job instead of collecting welfare and making life miserable for those who are working. Those folks can't afford to camp out downtown because they are paying their bills........and probably yours too.

So thats it. The soap box is put away and I am done preaching. I would like to know what you think though. Feel free to comment.

agreed. Those people are embarrassing me. Where were these people when we were begging to end the war? Why wasnt there a movement when the government failed to clean up Katrina's mess or the housing market crashed or when the government signed us up for their own medical plan without our permission...?? This generation seems to be so entitles and dumb and doesnt even know when to stand up for themselves. Its like twitter and FB are king, monkey see monkey do:-/
