Things I didn't know about cops

I think people make a lot of judgements about cops. Its not that they are bad people. I think it has more to do with being ignorant of the job. There is a lot of behaviour that from the outside makes no sense. I didn't have a high regard for law enforcement myself. I was introduced to a whole new world once my husband decided it was the career he'd always wanted. I know that I may not change anyone's mind about the po po, but people aren't big on personal responsibility these days. No one wants to admit they were wrong. Its easier to say we are being targeted or picked on. Anyway here are a few things I have picked up that may explain some things.

1. Why are cops so rude? Well they all aren't. Some are down right nice. If you live in Mayberry you might wonder why anyone would think that. If you live in any medium to large city you know what I mean. Truth is they don't know you. They don't know if you have a gun, a warrant, someone in the trunk.... Get the idea? They have to treat it as seriously as possible. We have all seen those Youtube videos of traffic stops where the suspect just kills the officer unprovoked. That is in the back of their heads every time they stop someone.

2. Why didn't he stop/pull that guy over? Well he wasn't on his way to get donuts more than likely he was on his way to a call. No they don't always use lights and sirens. They may be going to break up a domestic dispute, take a burglary or some other non-violent crime and they need to get there. They don't have time to pull over the jerk who ran the light. If it was your business or car that was stolen I don't think you would mind him passing up the bad driver.

3.Why didn't he just give me a warning? Probably because you broke the law. It doesn't matter if every other driver was doing the same thing either. I don't think God holds us accountable for the actions of other and I don't think he is happy when we act rude or angry when we are caught. If you have had a record of bad driving then don't expect a warning. Try driving the speed limit and obeying the traffic laws. I wonder how many tickets you'd get then?

Cops work hard. They would drive 90 miles an hour through traffic to get to your house any time of day. There aren't many folks who would do that. I think they deserve some respect. You have no idea the atrocities they see on a daily basis or the violence they encounter. I think some perspective might be in order.
