Not burning things part deux

Tonight I used the wonderfully expensive pot again and it did not disappoint. I made chicken and dumplings the southern way. There is no other way. Any other way is wrong, especially ways with canned biscuits. No. There is but one way to dumpling heaven and it involves flour, baking soda, salt and a few other simple ingredients. Not Bisquick mother. She actually had the nerve to think that her chicken and dumplings could hang or even out do mine. It may be time to start looking at rest homes. I think mom may have lost her mind.

Mom is an average cook. My phone should start ringing any minute now. Maybe not, my mom isn't Internet savvy and doesn't do facebook. I should be safe unless my dad rats me out, which he probably will. He doesn't have a lot going on as far as entertainment these days. Yes, my chicken and dumplings was great. It wasn't Paula Dean great, but great for me and definitely better than my mom's. I don't know if it really is the pot that has made my cooking better or just the confidence it inspires. It is empowering to feel like you just can't go wrong. You have French craftsmanship on your side! Its either that or the fact that the recipes you can make with the pot are inherently simple. Which ever answer makes me sound more impressive is the one I am going with.

My birthday week isn't over yet though. As much fun as I have been having with the pot, Dan says he has something else for me. He is going to cook for me. Gasp! I don't know when the last time that happened. He is an excellent cook. He is better than me, mom and Paula put together. He is the guy who just grabs a bunch of stuff, gives it a good sniff and makes something heavenly. Its really irritating. I love it when he cooks. It was one of the things that impressed me about him when we first met. Now he just relies on my sad efforts. He is hopelessly traditional so him cooking for me is a real bonus. I just hope he gets cake. He has to go buy it somewhere because he is the worst baker ever. He cannot be confined by a recipe. He needs freedom and baking is about precision. I am the baker, but that would be really sad if I had to bake my own cake. I wonder if I could bake in the new pot. Ooooooh! My two favorite things together! What could be better? To be continued........
