So we have a name! Its Lorelai and yes there are not many of those around. That is one of the pluses I think. Yes there is a girl on Gilmore Girls named Lorelai. I don't really care, but I do love the show. We came up with the name in a very off the cuff way. Dan being the good daddy that he is took Vanessa to see the new Hannah Montana. Points for the rest of his life. Anywho there was apparently a character named Lorelai. He suggested the name when he got home and I was floored. I have always loved that name, but after he vetoed Calysta, Crystal and a few other names that I was in love with I didn't even bother to suggest it. It was on my list, but I thought he wouldn't like it so why bother. You can imagine how excited I was when he suggested it. So there it is. Lorelai Elaine Estes at last you have a name.
The meaning behind the name is pretty cool. It is originally a German name meaning "murmuring rock". Apparently there is this waterfall/cliff along the Rhine river that makes a quiet murmuring sound. It became a myth that the sound was from a beautiful sirene that lured men to their deaths. Pretty creative if you ask me. So that is what it means. The proper spelling is Lorelei, but the creators of Gilmore girls spelled it Lorelai and it kinda stuck. I like the latter spelling. So there you have it. What do you think?

I think it's beautiful and I love the story behind it. But, having never watched Gilmore Girls, how do you pronounce it? Lora-lee or Lora-lie?? Either way, it's lovely.
